The "Sistemang Tatsulok" (triangle system) used by the Katipunan was started in 1892. It was originally the plan of Andrés Bonifacio to expand the membership of the Katipunan by means of this triangle system. Bonifacio formed the first triangle with his two comrades, Teodoro Plata and Ladislao Diwa. Each of them then introduced the Katipunan ideas to two new converts, who did not know each other. However, this system was abolished in December 1892 because it was found to be clumsy and complicated, and it was replaced by a new initiation system modeled after Masonic rites.
