Ideal Locations for Coconut FarmingClimate - Tropical with consistently warm temperatures between 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F), ideally around 27°C (80°F). High humidity above 60% (preferably 70-80%) and well-distributed annual rainfall between 1500 to 2500 mm (59 to 98 inches) are important. Coconut trees require bright sunlight for optimum growth.Temperature - Stable, warm conditions without extreme heatwaves or frost. They can tolerate temperatures from about 15°C to 38°C but thrive best in moderate tropical heat.Soil - Well-draining soils such as sandy loams, coastal alluviums, or red sandy loam are ideal. The soil should have good moisture retention but not be waterlogged. Avoid heavy clay, shallow soils with hard underlying rock, low-lying areas prone to water stagnation, or saline-alkaline extremes. Soil pH should be slightly acidic to neutral (around 5.0 to 7.5).Topography - Low-lying coastal areas with good drainage are best, with soil depth ideally over 1.2 meters for proper root development. In sloped or undulating terrain, soil conservation methods and contour bunding may be needed for planting.Additional conditions - Windbreaks can protect the trees from strong coastal winds and storms. Areas within about 23 degrees north or south of the equator are optimal for commercial coconut production.
