Based on folklore, the sea became salty because of a magical salt mill that was lost underwater. According to the story, there was once a small mill that could produce anything the owner wished for — gold, food, and even salt. One day, a greedy man took the mill and asked it to make salt. But he didn’t know how to make it stop. The mill kept grinding salt until it sank into the sea. Since then, it kept on producing salt under the water, which is why the sea became salty.
