The Twelve Organ Systems and Their Functions1.Integumentary System Main parts: Skin, hair, nails, sweat and oil glands Function: Protects the body from injury and infection, regulates temperature, prevents dehydration, and senses touch, pain, and temperature.2.Skeletal System Main parts: Bones, cartilage, ligaments, joints Function: Provides structure and support, protects internal organs, stores minerals, and produces blood cells.3.Muscular System Main parts: Skeletal muscles, smooth muscles, cardiac muscle Function: Produces movement, maintains posture, and generates heat.4.Nervous System Main parts: Brain, spinal cord, nerves, sense organs Function: Controls body activities by sending and receiving electrical signals; enables thinking, memory, and sensation.5.Endocrine System Main parts: Hormone-producing glands (pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, pancreas, etc.) Function: Regulates body processes through hormones (growth, metabolism, reproduction).6.Cardiovascular (Circulatory) System Main parts: Heart, blood, blood vessels Function: Transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and waste products; helps regulate body temperature.7.Lymphatic System (Immune System) Main parts: Lymph nodes, lymph vessels, spleen, thymus, tonsils Function: Defends the body against infection and disease, returns excess fluid to the bloodstream.8.Respiratory System Main parts: Nose, trachea, lungs, bronchi, diaphragm Function: Brings oxygen into the body and removes carbon dioxide.9.Digestive System Main parts: Mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas Function: Breaks down food into nutrients, absorbs them into the blood, and eliminates waste.10.Urinary (Excretory) System Main parts: Kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra Function: Removes waste products from the blood, regulates water and electrolyte balance.11.Reproductive System Main parts:-Male: testes, penis, associated glands-Female: ovaries, uterus, vagina, mammary glands Function: Produces sex cells and hormones; enables reproduction.12.Immune System (often considered part of lymphatic system but sometimes listed separately) Main parts: White blood cells, antibodies, bone marrow Function: Protects the body from pathogens and harmful substances.
