I do not fully agree that the proclamation of Philippine independence in 1898 was triggered solely by the execution of Dr. Jose Rizal. From my perspective, Rizal’s execution was certainly a significant and painful event that fueled Filipino nationalist sentiments and resistance against Spanish rule. However, the proclamation was the result of a broader revolution led by the Katipunan and other Filipino revolutionaries who had been fighting for independence for years. The execution intensified the desire for freedom, but independence was declared as part of the culmination of sustained efforts and the changing political situation, including the Spanish-American War.
