The central nervous system (CNS) is made up of the brain and spinal cord, and it acts as the control center of the body. It processes information received from the sensory organs and then sends out instructions to the rest of the body. The brain is responsible for higher functions like thinking, memory, emotions, decision-making, and coordination of voluntary movements. It has several major parts:Cerebrum – largest part; involved in thought, learning, memory, and voluntary movements.Cerebellum – controls balance and coordination.Brainstem – regulates basic functions like breathing, heartbeat, and blood pressure. The spinal cord connects the brain to the rest of the body. It acts as a highway for nerve signals and also handles reflexes through the reflex arc. It is protected by vertebrae and surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid.Together, the brain and spinal cord allow the body to react to stimuli, perform motor activities, and process sensory data. Any damage to the CNS can severely affect body functions and behavior.
