What is Evaporation?Evaporation is the process by which liquid water turns into a gas called water vapor and rises into the atmosphere. It occurs when the water receives energy from the sun or another warm source. The tiny water particles move and feel as though they are flying away because of to that energy!Think of it like this:Water is like a crowd of calm people. When the sun shines and gives them energy, some of them get super excited and start jumping up and leaving the group—that’s evaporation!Real-Life Examples:1. Drying Clothes on a Line • When you hang wet clothes outside, the water in them evaporates because of the sun and warm air. • After a while, the clothes are dry—because the water turned into invisible vapor and went into the air!2. Puddles Disappearing • After it rains, you see puddles on the ground. But if the sun comes out, those puddles slowly get smaller until they’re gone. • That’s because the water in the puddle is evaporating—it’s rising into the air as gas.Why Is Evaporation Important in the Water Cycle?Evaporation is a super important part of the water cycle! • It helps move water from Earth’s surface into the sky. • The water vapor goes up, cools down, and turns into clouds (that’s called condensation). • Later, it falls back to Earth as rain (called precipitation), and the cycle starts againWithout evaporation, there would be no clouds, no rain, and no water cycle—which means plants, animals, and people wouldn’t get the water they need.In Short:• Evaporation = liquid water turning into gas and going into the air.• It happens because of heat.• It dries our clothes, makes puddles disappear, and helps water move around Earth.• It’s a key step in the water cycle, helping create clouds and rain.
