Answer:Ashoka the Great (304–232 BCE) was the third and most famous ruler of the Maurya Empire in ancient India. He started off as a fierce, no-mercy type of emperor conquering lands, expanding the empire, and basically being That Guy in war.But after the gruesome Kalinga War, which caused massive death and destruction, Ashoka had a moral awakening. He converted to Buddhism, ditched the violence, and became a ruler focused on dhamma (moral law, compassion, justice, and tolerance).Ashoka didn’t just post his policies on town bulletin boards he had them carved into giant stone pillars (and rocks), placed across his empire for everyone to see. Basically, ancient India's version of pinning an announcement.
