A Day in the Life of a Red Blood Cell (RBC)What do you look like?I’m small, round, and flexible — like a tiny donut without a hole. I have no nucleus, and I’m colored red because of something inside me called hemoglobin. What is your job?My job is very important — I carry oxygen from the lungs to every cell in your body. After that, I take carbon dioxide (waste gas) from the cells and bring it back to the lungs for you to breathe out.Where are you found? You’ll find me inside your blood, flowing through blood vessels like highways — arteries, veins, and capillaries.Where do you travel from and to?Every day, I travel from your lungs (where I get oxygen), to your heart (which pumps me), and then all the way to your muscles, brain, skin — everywhere. After delivering oxygen, I head back to the heart and lungs to drop off carbon dioxide.I may be small, but without me, your body wouldn’t survive a single minute!
