Inertia is the tendency to resist a change in an object's motion. It is the property of an object to resist changes in its state of motion. An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless acted on by a force. To help you visualize this, imagine a ball that is on the floor. It won’t move without any external forces working on it. That is inertia at rest. When you kick it, it moves forward. And when your brother intercepts the ball and kick it, it flies to another direction. The two of you kicking the ball and forcing it to move is inertia in motion.
