Why is it that nothing happens to a solution mixed in with a solution that is already buffered?

Answer:A buffer is a solution that resists appreciable change in pH upon addition of small amounts of strong acid or base because it contains a weak acid/base and its conjugate. These two species exist in equilibrium and do not neutralize each other. As such, buffers contain a basic component which neutralized any added acid, and an acidic component which neutralizes any added base.
