Steps in Drawing Refraction of Light Through LensDraw a horizontal line for the surface (air-glass boundary).Draw a convex lens (shaped like a football or eye) in the middle. From the left side, draw a straight arrow (light ray) going towards the lens at an angle (not perpendicular). Label this Incident Ray.At the point where the ray hits the lens, draw a dotted line perpendicular to the surface. Label this Normal Line. The light ray bends towards the normal inside the lens. This is the Refracted Ray. Label the angle between the incident ray and the normal as Angle of Incidence, and the angle between the refracted ray and the normal as Angle of Refraction. On the other side of the lens, draw the ray bending away from the normal as it exits the glass into air again. This is the Emergent Ray.When light enters a denser medium (air to glass), the angle of refraction is less than the angle of incidence. When it exits to a less dense medium (glass to air), it bends away, and the angle of refraction is greater than the angle of incidence.
