Reading Selection 1: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo lived from 1907-1954. At age 15, a serious accident caused Kahlo to give up her dream of working in medicine, and she began painting. Kahlo’s works often portray the harsh lives and pain women face, which were inspired by her personal experiences. In fact, her works are often shocking in their portrayal of pain.
