What makes a resource productive in economics?

A resource is productive if it helps create goods or services. For example, a skilled carpenter with the right tools can build houses, which is useful and profitable. Productivity increases when resources are used efficiently. In farming, using machines and fertilizers helps grow more crops. But if land is left empty or workers are untrained, those resources are wasted. In the Philippines, programs that train farmers in better techniques make both land and labor more productive.
