Francisco Balagtas first studied in a parish school in Bigaa, his hometown in Bulacan. These schools were run by the church and were focused on teaching religion, reading, and writing. It was in this school that he began to learn the basics of education.Even though the parish school was simple, it gave Francisco the foundation he needed to continue learning. It also helped him become more curious and excited about studying. This school introduced him to reading and helped develop his interest in language and literature. At that time, not all children had a chance to go to school, especially those from poor families. So it was a big opportunity for Francisco. His time in this school was the beginning of his journey toward becoming one of the greatest Filipino poets. It proves that even the smallest schools can create the brightest minds.
