All materials are either solid, liquid or gas?. A brick, jar and glass are all solids. Solids can be touched; they have a definite shape. The molecules that make up a solid are packed tightly together. Water, milk and syrup are all liquids. Liquids can be poured and take the shape of the container they are in. Steam, helium and carbon dioxide are all gases. Gases are mostly invisible. They will fill an empty container. Steam is a gas, water is a liquid, and ice is a solid.
