Reading Jose Rizal’s essay, The Philippines A Century Hence makes me reflect on how much our country has changed—and also how some of Rizal’s warnings and hopes are still relevant today. Rizal imagined a free and independent Philippines, and while we have achieved that politically, we still struggle with inequality, poverty, and corruption.Rizal warned about foreign control, and now we see new forms of influence through business and global politics. But I’m also proud because many Filipinos are now more aware, educated, and active in protecting our rights. As someone living a century after Rizal’s time, I feel a responsibility to continue what he started. We must love our country not just in words but in actions—by voting wisely, respecting one another, and standing up for truth.Rizal's dream is not finished. It lives in us.
