HETEROGENEOUSHeterogeneous generally refers to something made up of different and clearly distinct parts or elements. In chemistry, it's used more specifically to describe a mixture that contains two or more different substances, or the same substance in different states. Example: A mixture of sand and water is heterogeneous because the sand does not dissolve and settles at the bottom. HOMOGENEOUS Homogeneous means made up of parts that are the same or nearly the same. In chemistry, it describes mixtures where substances are evenly blended, like salt completely dissolved in water.Example: Salt dissolved in water is a homogeneous mixture because the salt particles are evenly spread and cannot be seen.
