Answer:Mango’s are hybrids. Anytime a hybrid seed is planted, the seedling will not resemble the plant it came from, but rather some mixture of the ancestors from which the hybrid was bred. Many different traits will have been selected, all governed by different genes. You need to understand basic heredity to follow this, but all organisms have many genes, always in pairs on chromosomes. For each trait, one gene came from the male parent and one came from the female parent. Traits can be dominant or recessive. If dominant, that gene from either parent will be expressed. If recessive, the gene must be present from both parentsLet’s say the mango has been bred to be especially sweet, juicy and fiber-free. There are six genes possible to be inherited S-sweet, s-unsweet; J-juicy, j-not juicy; F-fiber free, f-not fiber free. All of them are dominant traits, and the gene combination of the parent (three pairs of genes) might be Ss, Jj, Ff. When the flower is pollinated the seeds inherit one gene from each parent. Every possible combination could result, from SS, JJ, FF to ss,jj,ff. The first would be sweet, juicy and fiber-free. The second would be not sweet, not juicy and not fiber free. Why risk planting a seed when ten years later you discover your fruit is the latter? With a grafted tree you know you will get the real thing.
