Pluto is not classified as a planet in the solar system because, in 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) redefined what it means to be a planet. According to the IAU, a planet must meet three criteria:Orbits the Sun ✅ (Pluto does this)Has enough mass to be nearly round in shape ✅ (Pluto is spherical)Has cleared its orbit of other debris ❌ (Pluto fails this)Pluto does not meet the third criterion because its orbit overlaps with other objects in the Kuiper Belt, meaning it hasn’t "cleared the neighborhood" around its orbit. Instead, Pluto is now classified as a dwarf planet along with others like Eris and Ceres.Even though it's no longer considered a major planet, Pluto remains an interesting and important part of our solar system!
