What are the similarities between Mars and Earth?

Both have seasons: Just like Earth, Mars experiences different seasons because its axis is tilted. This means that different parts of the planet get more or less sunlight throughout the year. Both have water (in different forms): We know that Mars has ice caps at its poles, and there's evidence of past liquid water on the surface. On Earth, we have oceans, rivers, and glaciers. Both have volcanoes: While Mount Olympus on Mars is the biggest volcano in our solar system, we have active volcanoes on Earth too, like Mount Kilauea in Hawaii! Both have atmospheres: While Mars' atmosphere is much thinner than Earth's, it still has an atmosphere made up of gases. Earth's atmosphere is what makes life possible, but Mars' atmosphere is much thinner and doesn't provide the same protection. Both have magnetic fields: Earth has a strong magnetic field that protects us from the Sun's harmful radiation. Mars has a weaker magnetic field, which is why its atmosphere is slowly being stripped away. It's amazing to think that even though Mars is a whole lot different from Earth, it still shares some key features!
