Good morning/afternoon everyone. Today, I'd like to talk to you about something we often take for granted, but which is actually quite fascinating, our nails. You might think of nails as just a protective layer, but they're actually a complex structure with a unique design that allows them to perform their function exceptionally well. The visible part of the nail, the nail plate, is made mostly of keratin, the same protein that makes up our hair and skin, making it tough and resilient, protecting our fingertips from injury. The hidden part, the nail matrix, is the growth center, generating new cells that push the nail plate forward, while the nail bed, filled with tiny blood vessels, provides nutrients to the matrix. The cuticle, a thin layer of skin covering the base of the nail, protects the matrix from damage. The smooth slightly curved surface of the nail plate allows us to grip and manipulate objects with precision, while also contributing to our sensory feedback. To keep our nails healthy, we should regularly wash our hands and clean under our nails, moisturize them, and protect them from damage by avoiding biting, using them as tools, and exposing them to harsh chemicals. By understanding the structure and function of our nails, we can better appreciate them and take care of them./Hope it helps, have a good day.
