avoSCENARIO #- CattailsA Scientist noticed that cattails grew only in swampy parts of his backyard. He decided totry to find out why. He went to the library and found out the following facts: Cattails arenot found in deserts, Cattails are usually found in many swamps, Cattails sometimes growin rivers and streams. The scientist thought for a while, then said, "I think I have figuredout the answer. Cattails need a lot of water to grow." He then went into his yard and dugup 100 cattails. He divided them into four groups. Each group contained 25 cattails. All ofthe groups were grown in the same type of soil, they all received the same amount oflight, and they were all kept at the same temperature. There was only one differencebetween the groups. Group 1 received 4 mL of water a day. Group 2 received 3 mL ofwater a day. Group 3 received 2 ml of water a day. Group 4 received 1 mL of water eachday. Every day he went out and measured the plants. After 30 days he observed that theplants in group 1 had grown an average of 8 cm. The plants in group 2 had grown anaverage of 4 cm. The plants in group 3 had grown an average of 2 cm. The plants in group4 had grown an average of only 1 cm. He then decided that the amount of water that acattail receives affects its growth. Plants that receive more water, grow more. The datagathered is shown below. The scientist then repeated his experiment using another 100cattails.Group (Each contain 25 cattails)Amount ofWater each day (30 days)(mL)Average Growth(cm)Group 148Group 234Group 323Group 4111. Answer (1)

Answer:1. Hypothesis: - Cattails need a lot of water to grow. The amount of water a cattail receives affects its growth.2. Dependent Variable: - The growth of the cattails (measured in centimeters).3. Independent Variable: - The amount of water each group of cattails receives each day (measured in milliliters).4. Constants / Controlled Variables: - Type of soil, amount of light, and temperature.5. Control Group: - Group 4 (receiving 1 mL of water each day), as it receives the least amount of water and provides a baseline for comparison.6. Experimental Group: - Groups 1, 2, and 3, which receive different amounts of water (4 mL, 3 mL, and 2 mL per day, respectively).
