ANSWER Aunt Polly: Sid, have you seen Tom? He was supposed to be whitewashing the fence, but I can’t seem to find him anywhere!Sid: (Innocently) I think he ran off somewhere, Aunt Polly. I saw him talking to some boys earlier. You know how he is.Aunt Polly: (Sighs) That boy! Always finding a way to get out of work. Just wait till I get my hands on him!Jim: (Carrying a bucket) Morning, Miss Polly. I got the water from the well, just like you asked.Aunt Polly: Thank you, Jim. Have you seen Tom around?Jim: (Nervously) Well, ma'am, I saw him near the fence a while ago, but then he took off. He’s always up to some mischief.Sid: (Smirking) Maybe he went to the river to swim, Aunt Polly. He loves doing that.Aunt Polly: Oh, he’d better not! I told him to stay out of that water. When he gets back, he’ll have some explaining to do!Jim: (Chuckling) Reckon Tom’s always got a trick up his sleeve, ma’am.Aunt Polly: (Shaking her head) That boy is going to be the end of me, I swear! This dialogue captures Aunt Polly's frustration with Tom, Sid's tendency to tattle, and Jim's awareness of Tom's mischievous nature.
